The Cathedral City Peace Initiative is a Project of the Cathedral City Senior Center.  We are not religious, not political, and oppose no one.

Our goal is the promote Peace –

  • Within Ourselves: We believe we cannot promote something we do not have individually.  We conduct a Peace Meditation at the Cathedral City Senior Center each Wednesday at 4 pm.  All are welcome regardless of your meditation experience.
  • Within Cathedral City: We are planning classes and workshops on mediation and violence avoidance for youth and elderly.
  • Throughout the world: We are sponsoring street demonstrations at S Palm Canyon and W Buddy Roger weekly on Wednesday mornings promoting NO WAR!

Background –

Founder Robert McKechnie attended the Rotary E-Club of World Peace Conference in Ontario, California in October 2019.  One speaker stood out, David Swanson, founder and Chief Executive Officer of World BEYOND War stood out.  Swanson suggested that many of human achievements were once considered to be impossible.  For example, greatly reducing the incidence of polio couldn’t be done, according to most people. Think of other achievements. Small-pox was eradicated. Slavery was prohibited by law. Female suffrage was legalized. Engineers designed and built the Golden Gate Bridge, the Empire State Building and many other amazing structures.

Surely, the cultural institution of war could be abolished.

The Guiding Principles:

  • We are not political.
  • We are not religious.
  • We do not fight with anyone.
  • We do not advocate for ending the military; we do support using the military to create permanent peace by taking on positive contributions to societies around the world.
